An entire branch of science is devoted to Seismology, which is a study of earthquakes. But earthquakes aren't just the shaking of the ground. Seismologists study earthquakes and measure their strength. They can cause deformation and deform rocks. Elastic rebound is a rebound of rock that was deformed but returned to its original shape. Earthquakes can also create faults that cause serious damage. The three faults are strike-slip faults, reverse faults, and normal faults.
